Funeral Coach builders:
- Germany:
- Miesen (1-Mar 2001)
Today Miesen is building ambulances only, but there are reports of older Miesen
hearses as well.

Similar to Miesen, Binz is bulding only ambulances and limousines today.
- Autohaus Braunschweig GmbH (23-Jan 2001)
The Volkswagen and Audi Dealership "Autohaus Braunschweig" (ABRA) in,
surprise, Braunschweig not only sells new Volkswagens, but also hearses. Mostly
based on Volkswagen mini vans (suck), but, interesting enough, also based on
VW Passat. Interesting.
- DeBesta Sonderfahrzeuge (23-Jan 2001)
DeBesta in Isernhagen (Hamburg) offers hearses based on
Mercedes Vito (transporter) and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. They also offer some used

Marazzi builds all sorts of cars, armoured vehicles, ambulances and of course,
hearses. Their funeral coaches are based on Mercedes Benz chassis and available
as Landau style, with large windows, two doors or four doors, they offer everything.
- MAF, Mariani Alfredo e Figlio (1-Mar 2001)
Signor Mariani builds all sorts of specialized vehicles, including some pretty unusual
cars like a mobile blood bank! Of course they also build funeral vehicles, based
on Mercedes Benz chassis and Mercedes Vito and Fiat Ducato for more specialized hearses.
- Disteco Carrozzerie Speciali (20-Jan 2001)
Disteco in Camnago Volta, Italy, builds ambulances and funeral coaches.
Their page is only in italian language.
- Landriani (20-Jan 2001)
Actually, as Alexander Beyer has found out, Landriani does not
build their own funeral coaches; instead they sell coaches built by
Pilato.
- Fraire (20-Jan 2001)
Autotrasformazioni Fraire are located in Revello and have some beautiful hearses
on a Mercedes-Benz basis.
- Spain:
- Bergadana, Spain (19-Dez 2000)
A spanish coach builder, producing hearses and ambulances. They also use some
unusual cars as chassis, ever seen a 4WD hearse?
- Great Britain:
- Woodall-Nicholson (1-Mar 2001)
From their webpage: "Woodall Nicholson is one of the oldest established
coachbuilding companies in the UK, dating back to the 1820's, when its major
market was the building of horse-drawn hansom cabs and carriages. Through the
years, the company, which was originally founded in the Yorkshire town of
Halifax, has maintained its reputation for classical coachwork, being
associated with all the famous marques, including in the first half of the 20th
century Rolls-Royce, Daimler, Humber, Jaguar and Austin.
In the latter half of the century, with the demise of separate chassis on cars, the
Group has concentrated on vehicles from the Ford, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz,
Rolls-Royce and Saab ranges."
Today, the company has been bought by Coleman-Milne, but the name lives on,
and as a matter of fact, Coleman-Milne presents itself on the web under the
Woodall-Nicholson address:
- Coleman-Milne (1-Mar 2001)
Suppliers of hearses, limousines, police vehicles and removal ambulances.
- Nilsson UK (1-Mar 2001)
While Nilsson is actually a Swedish coach builder, they have dependencies in UK
as well (I've been told it is related to a Swedish law requiring all car manufacturers
to perform a crash test on their cars, even if these are based on commercial, and
therefore already crash tested cars, and also for one-off models. Can someone confirm
this or prove me wrong?)
They also sell used cars, albeit only from their own product range.
- MacNeillie (1-Mar 2001)
Ever wanted to buy a "riot and crowd control vehicle" or a
"prisoner transportation vehicle"? Then that is the place to go to.
OK, they build limousines and hearses as well.
- Wilcox Limousines (1-Mar 2001)
Ingo found out that Wilcox also manufactures coaches under the name
"Eagle Specialist Vehicles".
- USA:
- Krystal Enterprises (1-Mar 2001)
Krystal Enterprises main business seems to be focused on all sorts of limousines, but
there are also two hearse models in their product portfolio, based on Cadillac and
Lincoln chassis. They also have a range of pre-owned limousines (and mid-size buses)
for sale.
- Eagle (1-Mar 2001)
What was once the funeral coach division of Hess&Eisenhardt is now Eagle.
- Accubuilt (1-Mar 2001)
Accubuilt unites the "old" and big names such as S&S (Sayers and Scovill),
Miller-Meteor, Superior and Eureka under one roof. If their web page would work
(at least with my browser) as intended, you could directly hop from there to the
homepages of the individual makes. However, it seems they are still working on their
internet presentation.
- Miller-Meteor (1-Mar 2001)
Owned by Accubuilt today, only the name remains. And a webpage, that doesn't seem
to work (at least for me). Well, it is listed here for completeness.
- S&S and Superior (1-Mar 2001)
The same story as with the two manufacturers listed above.
- Federal (1-Mar 2001)
Federal builds professional cars such as hearses and limousines as well as buses.
Hearses and limousines are based on Cadillac and Lincoln chassis.

They also have a few used hearses for sale, however they do not list prices.
I've heard that they are not amongst the most cheapest, but they offer a
one year warranty on their used cars.

A good page describing the DS420 limousines, on which a lot of British hearses are

more than their share of problems for the used car enthusiasts!
